General description of the premises

The Brévedent Equestrian Centre is located in Normandy, in the heart of the Pays d’Auge, two hours from Paris and 30 minutes from the Normandy coast, Deauville and Honfleur. Nestled between forest and meadows, the centre offers a peaceful and enchanting setting. Galloping along the magical avenue or enjoying a two-hour ride without crossing a single road is part of everyday life for riders at Le Brévedent.

The equestrian centre is the starting point for many rides and longer outings. We are fortunate to be able to ride for several hours without crossing a single road!
Several options are available to riders. Whether beginners or experienced, we tailor our rides to your needs. Treat yourself to a horse ride in the heart of the countryside, with the option of tasting local products, and enjoy a magical moment with family or friends.

The clubhouse is now located at the entrance, serving as a welcoming and sociable space where it’s a pleasure to gather for a drink or lunch. The veranda offers an indoor-outdoor feel, allowing you to enjoy the life of the club while staying warm in winter and cool in the shade during summer.

The fibre-reinforced Fontainebleau sand arenas are set at a good distance from each other, allowing groups to ride and progress in a calm and comfortable environment.

  • One 60 × 80 arena allows for setting up a full show jumping course or a dressage arena to practise and perform your test.
  • One 40 × 25 arena hosts pony lessons and is also used as a warm-up arena during events such as competitions.
  • Two indoor arenas allow for training all year round in the best conditions.

Philosophy & Team

Jessica and Raphaël, managers of the Brévedent Equestrian Centre in Normandy.

Owners Jess and Raphaël: she has been a rider all her life, he is a musician. With 20 years of experience in tourism, they love organising events and, above all, creating shared moments and unforgettable experiences. Having run Castel Camping Le Brévedent for the past 18 years, they aim to build bridges between horse riding and tourism to offer truly unique experiences!

Jess et Raphaël

The world is changing, and so is horse riding. Our goal is to offer a unique experience through the kindness of our teaching team and their commitment to providing learning that is both fun and demanding.

For over 60 years, the Brévedent Equestrian Centre has welcomed both children and adults in an exceptional setting. In 2025, we are modernising the facilities to offer high-quality services and tailor-made experiences. Authenticity and hospitality are at the heart of the team’s values, and continuing the story of this unique place is truly meaningful to us.

On a daily basis, the well-being of our riders is a priority, and the well-being of our ponies and horses is just as essential to us. Every decision is made with the aim of respecting the balance and welfare of our equines.

The Brévedent Equestrian Centre is located in the commune of Le Faulq (yes, really!), but its forest lies in the commune of Le Brévedent…

History of the Equestrian Centre

The Coutable family purchased the site in the 1950s to develop a poultry farming activity. Later, driven by their shared passion for horses, the business evolved into an equestrian centre in the 1970s.

Jean-Luc Coutable, founder of the Brévedent Equestrian Centre, jumping an obstacle during an eventing competition.

Jean-Luc Coutable, a member of the family, became deeply involved and excelled in eventing, competing at the European Championships at the Haras du Pin and later at the world’s most challenging eventing competition, Badminton, in 1970.
The Brévedent equestrian complex was established shortly afterwards and became a flagship of horse riding, gaining national recognition.
Joined by Cathy in 1992, they went on to train many instructors, coach numerous riders in competition, and host examination sessions.
Over the years, Cathy and Jean-Luc have welcomed many riders, along with their children who in turn come to learn horse riding in this place that means so much to them.
In 1998, I passed my Galop 7 at Le Brévedent. I later passed on my passion to our daughter Eva, who has had her mare in livery at Le Brévedent since 2020 — the circle is complete!

In 2023, Cathy and Jean-Luc decided to sell the club, the business of their lifetime. Deeply attached to the place and its people, Raphaël and I chose to take it over to continue the equestrian centre’s activity, modernise it, and ensure this wonderful place keeps welcoming both the children of former riders and many new ones.

In 2025, we took over the equestrian centre and began offering equestrian stays, as tourism is naturally at the heart of our expertise.

The Pony Club

The pony club would be nothing without its ponies: a wonderful team of ponies is ready to give children unforgettable moments!

Outside of course periods, our ponies live out in the fields in a herd, and they are very happy that way! They are brought into the large barn when the weather is too bad or when it’s time for lessons, and they love showing off and clowning around to entertain everyone.

The barn provides a spacious semi-free living area for the ponies, as well as a dedicated area for their preparation, sheltered from the rain or the sun!

The small indoor arena is ideal for teaching beginners’ lessons, while the outdoor arena offers more space for jumping sessions, Equifun and a wide range of games. As for the nearby forest, it allows children to get some fresh air and enjoy the countryside in every season, without ever needing to cross a road.

Our instructors are fantastic with younger riders, helping them grow in confidence and progress steadily, without fear and while having fun!
